Roa de Duero and wine

If something stands out in Roa, it is its wonderful wines. In the town is the headquarters of the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero.

The Villa de Roa is located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero.Its climates have fostered a unique nature of the wines that are made there.

​

The vineyards extend over more than 100 km through four Castilian provinces, Burgos being the one that owns 75% of the wine extension.

Tradition and gastronomic freshness

The gastronomy combinestradition with the nature and freshness of the food. A typical dish that stands out is thesuckling lamb

The semi-cured and cured sheep cheeses are also very representative elements of the gastronomy of the municipality. 

​

The Cod "Tavern Style"It is another of the dishes that cannot be missed to try. It is made slowly over the fire in a clay pot.This recipe is generally enjoyed in winter and, above all, at Easter.

​

Another of the gastronomic peculiarities is that the oil cake that is prepared in the Ribera del Duero is usually present together with the roast suckling lamb and other foods.

Monuments and buildings of incalculable historical value

The Former Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the AssumptionIt is the most emblematic building in Roa. In the Plaza Mayor of the Villa,still allows to appreciate Romanesque remains of previous factories, as well as agothic coverpresided over by Christ Majesty as Pantocrator. The current temple was completed in the mid-16th century.
